Arthritis: Overview

Arthritis is the class of diseases causing joint inflammation. Symptoms include joint pain, joint swelling, joint redness, joint warmth, and so on. Arthritis may affect only a single joint, or there may be multiple joints affected. Arthritis may affect any region: knuckle arthritis, knee arthritis, ankle arthritis, spinal arthritis, and many others. There are many categories of arthritis, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, septic arthritis, gouty arthritis, and other types. Differential diagnosis involves assessing other possible causes of joint pain and joint symptoms, such as joint injuries, systemic diseases, joint infections (e.g. Lyme disease, Dengue fever), and many other possibilities.
